You can't beat the price, ($550) with NAVPOD, and it looks great!
PIONER AVIC F500BT INSTALL
Overall I am pleased with the install and a great option without putting in a new headunit.
PIONER AVIC F500BT UPDATE
I will update later with more thoughts. The touch screen can be a PITA at times. It shows artist, album art work, and song being played.įrom what I have seen the NAV is pretty good with good graphics. The only good thing about playing IPOD through the unit is the screen. You have to turn up the sound a little more and the bass is not up to par. The problem is the sound output, it does not sound as good as a direct IPOD hookup. The grom is plugged into the CD changer input and plays sound through th CD chager on the headunit. I used the GROM unit with RCA to headphone jack, and then used a female to female adapter to connect the unit and the grom unit together.

I have not played around with it too much but seems to be a little touchy? The unit has a headphone output in the wire harness. It is controlled through the unit and uploades your IPOD onto the unit.

I did the 2.0 firmware update and it seems to be faster. The graphics are great, boot up time is a little slow. With the unit installed, I got a little time playing around with the unit. I then ran the ipod cable to the armrest box. I tried wiring the unit direct to 12V power and grounded the parking brake wire, but no power? Finally, after hours of wiring it came on (have no clue what I did)? I wired the power to the ignition power in the lower left fuse box. I messed around with the wiring for hours, trying different ways of getting power to the unit. It has a parking brake wire, rear camera wire, rear camera input, and a amp wire. lighter for power or a direct 12V source. The wires in the power cord are thin (20gauge)? The unit gives you the option of a cig. The directions are very vague, you have to figure it out yourself.

There are no wiring directions that come with the unit, but are found on the pioneer website. The F500bt comes with a hardwire harness and a power cord that attaches of the back of the unit. It is a tight fit with the IPOD cable attached to the side of the unit, but fits. To secure the unit I fabricated up some balsa trim pieces, metal straps, and velcro to hold it in place. The plexiglass matches the finish of the F500bt well. I painted plexiglass black on the inside and used the outer side as the face for the trim (glossy). The unit is almost an exact fit for width, but comes up about a 1/4 inch short for height. I installed this to keep a OEM look with the OEM radio. I purchased the unit for $200 new with the IPOD cord, great deal. Thanks to members on the forums (Osiris x11) for answering alot of my questions about fitment. This week I installed the Pioneer F500bt.
